Why Your Current Tektronix Function Generator Is Probably Overkill (And That's a Good Problem)

If you’re in the market for a function generator, a spectrum analyzer, or even a simple multimeter — don’t optimize for the lowest upfront price. Optimize for the total cost of your measurement confidence.

I’d rather spend 10 minutes explaining the difference between a 14-bit and a 12-bit vertical resolution than deal with the fallout of a mismatched expectation later. I’ve rejected about 18% of first deliveries in 2024 alone due to spec compliance failures on cheaper equipment. That’s a number I’d rather not defend to my boss again.

Is the premium option always worth it? Only if you value your time, your data, and your reputation.
